&& Then There Was One 'Cause I Wasn't Bad Enough.
Twilight covered the meadow in a blanket of shadows. No light shown down, being reflected off the blades of grass nor the sleeping flower buds tonight. It was a new moon, the rebirth of the moon. It was so dark, but sh could see just fine, her silver tinted gold eyes her focused and clear even in the quiet depths of the twilight hour. She padded along the edge of a nearby stream, unconsciously, thinking of her past. That horrid night when she was first banished from her pack. Her stomach churned, sending butterflies though out her whole digestive system. Her heart beat faster as the pain hollowed her insides. How could they have believe him of all people over her? It just didn't seem fair. It wasn't fair.
She shook it off, trying her best to put that thought behind her. But every time she tried to do so, it always seemed to sneak back up on her at the worse possible time, and ten times worse than before, too. It wasn't just because her lover had, too, believed the known liar, but because her family, whom knew her to never lie, had as well. She felt worthless, depressed, and dead. How could they do that to her? Treat her like dirt? And because of something that hadn't even been her fault. Had they know that already? Were they only making up an excuse to shove her out of the pack? Was she too good to be one of them? After all, they were on the Dark side of things. Perhaps her soul was too pure? If it was at all, she was unsure.
She heaved out a heavy sigh, plopping down at the edge of the quiet stream, gazing at her distorted reflection rippling every so slightly in the water. She studied her face, the black clashing in splotches on her face against the silvery fur that covered the majority of her pelt. And her eyes, with all their abnormalities. They were a very odd color, two in fact. Each iris was gold, but in the center of it was like whole other iris of silver, making it seem like there were three instead of only one. A silvery circle bordered on either side by gold. It was so very unique, but she though it made her look odd, unnatural. It was right to her. She felt like an outsider the way she was colored. And she hated it.
She whipped her tail to and fro a couple of times in frustration before standing and trotted away from the water's edge, utterly dissatisfied with her appearance. Was there nothing normal about her? It seemed not. She lowered her ears flat against her skull and continued her trot, getting as far away from her reflection as humanly, or wolfly perhaps, possible without exiting the meadow back into the woods she had entered from. She didn't plan on heading back tonight. No point, and it wasn't like she had to be anywhere, ever. She grunted as she misstepped and fell face forward into the dirt below. A low growl emerged from the pit of her throat. Her klutzy nature wasn't helping her mood much at all. This really sucked.
She stood, regaining her posture and shook the dirt off of her glittery pelt and sat down with a thud. This was going to be a long night. Perhaps she should try getting some rest. A light rain started over head and a low growl tumbled from her throat again. Maybe not. Just what she needed, something else to get on her nerves. Well this was a nice night, wasn't it? She sighed and stood. She began to trot towards a near by tree to take shelter under from the rain, taking a careful precaution to not trip again, seeing as it was no longer the loose dirt that it had once been. It was now a gooey brown substance that was nearly impossible to relieve yourself of once it was there without drenching your coat in the stream or some sort of watery existence.
She sighed. Maybe tomorrow would be a better day. She lied down where the ground wasn't quite so muddy and curled up into a tiny ball, pressing herself together as tight as she could to stay dry. She shut her eyes and before long, she was out like a light, dreaming of the better days with her once loving family. How she missed them. Even knowing what they'd done to her, she couldn't help but miss them. After all, they were family, no matter who they were.
